Christmas Cheer @ Mary’s

“Christmas is the spirit of giving without a thought of getting”.  With the spirit of giving, a few KCKL members headed to the Mary’s at Setapak to spend a blessed morning with 55 children. Lead by our Community Service Director, Kiwanian Bee Lan, the team spent the morning by playing a couple of games with the children. The younger ones colored Santa Claus and Christmas tree images whilst the other group of children spent time in challenging each other with the jenga challenge. The highlight and the one that created most noise at the Home was “palm and feet” challenge which resembled the Twister game.

Simple lunch was served accompanied by multi-flavored ice creams (ice cream sponsored by Boon Yam, the friend of Kiwanian Bee Lan). Christmas party is incomplete without the Carols, all the children and members participated in singing out famous Christmas songs accompanied by drums played by a couple of children.  The members as well as our very own Santa Claus @ Kiwanian Petur Sigurdsson then gave away the goodie bags of stationery and snacks specially prepared for the children. Mouthwatering lovely cupcakes prepared by Kiwanian Bee Lan and her friend, Mandy Ong were distributed to the children and the care takers. December birthday babies were celebrated as well. Kudos to the care takers of Mary’s for raising the well-disciplined and mannered children at their Home. It was very heartening to see the happiness and joy on the kids’ faces. Very glad that we brought lots of cheers on one of their daily lives. Our short to long term contribution to Mary’s is the contribution of mattresses for the children which are currently in dire need of change. Delivery of mattresses was made on January 4th.

We thank Kiwanian Rajesh for his dedication in supporting this effort as well as Kiwanians Petur, Rosie Chan, Chin Siew Hing, Karl Ang, Koh Yuan Ni and Rajesh’s wife (Rupal) for their time and contribution in making the community service project a success.
